The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mr Olukayode Egbetokun, has taken a significant step to enhance policing across the country by ordering the deployment of 35 Commissioners of Police (CPs) to various states and formations.
This directive, approved by the Police Service Commission, demonstrates the commitment of the police leadership to ensure effective security, law enforcement, and the maintenance of peace in Nigeria.
In an official statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the deployment of the CPs aims to review the February general elections and discuss preparations for upcoming off-season governorship elections in Kogi and Imo scheduled for November this year. The review process will cover all aspects of electoral activities before, during, and after the elections.
The Acting Inspector-General of Police has urged the newly deployed CPs to align themselves with his policies, vision, and mission for the Nigerian Police Force. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing the safety and well-being of citizens and ensuring adherence to the principles of fairness, professionalism, and respect for human rights. Additionally, he encouraged the CPs to lead by example, fostering harmonious relationships with other security agencies, community leaders, and relevant stakeholders.
Furthermore, the Acting Inspector-General of Police urged the CPs to promote intelligence-led policing, proactive crime prevention strategies, and community engagement initiatives. By doing so, they can enhance public trust and confidence in the police force while effectively addressing security challenges across the nation.
The deployment of these experienced and capable CPs signifies a significant effort by the police leadership to strengthen the overall security architecture of Nigeria, ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of law enforcement services in different regions.
