The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)’s suspended governor, Godwin Emefiele, has initiated legal proceedings against the Department of State Services (DSS) over his detention.
On Tuesday, June 20, 2023, Emefiele filed a petition at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja, requesting the court’s intervention to protect his fundamental rights of liberty and freedom of movement. He argues that there are no valid reasons for his prolonged confinement.
However, both the Attorney General of the Federation office and the DSS stand firm in their position that the continued detention of the suspended CBN Governor is legally justified.
