President Bola Tinubu has taken the decision to immediately suspend Mr. Godwin Emefiele, the Central Bank Governor, from his position.
This development was revealed in a statement released by Mr. Willie Bassey, the Director of Information in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), on Friday night in Abuja.
The decision to suspend Mr. Emefiele is a result of an ongoing investigation into his office and the planned financial sector reforms. As per the statement, Mr. Emefiele has been instructed to hand over his responsibilities to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will serve as the acting Central Bank Governor until the investigation is concluded and the reforms are implemented.
