Akwa Ibom Governor Visits President Tinubu, Calls for Unity and Focus on Governance

Governor Pastor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State paid a visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the State House in Abuja. The visit took place on Thursday and Governor Eno, who belongs to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was accompanied by Governor Caleb Muftwang of Plateau State, who is also a member of the PDP.

Following their meeting with the President, Governor Eno spoke to reporters and emphasized the need to shift focus away from politics now that the elections are over. He highlighted the importance of directing attention towards governance and the responsibilities that come with it.

“Politics is over, and governance has started, So, Akwa Ibom is an integral part of Nigeria, and we have to work with the federal government to ensure that Akwa Ibomite will see the benefits of democracy and we cannot do that if we work standing apart,” the governor said.

Pastor Umo Eno further noted that, “There are lots of things we expect from the federal government and it’s only with that cooperation that we can work together and achieve the common good, whatever I know I can do, to bring the dividends of democracy to my people, I will do it.”

During their meeting at the State House in Abuja, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, engaged in discussions with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu regarding several areas in need of federal assistance. These areas included the improvement of the Calabar-Itu Road, the development of the Ibom Deep Seaport, the acquisition of an export license, and the establishment of a free trade zone for Calabar Airport.

Governor Eno also highlighted the state’s ownership of Ibom Air and expressed plans to import spare parts for airplanes. He emphasized the measures implemented by his administration to mitigate the impact of the removal of petrol subsidy on the populace.

Meanwhile, Governor Eno acknowledged the distribution of palliatives by the government to support the people. He announced his intention to meet with petroleum marketers in the state, seeking their cooperation to alleviate the hardships resulting from the fuel subsidy removal.
