During a visit to the National Security Adviser’s office and the National Terrorism Centre in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu called on security agencies in Nigeria to prioritize information sharing as a crucial step in combating terrorism effectively. He warned that withholding vital resources would impede progress in addressing the menace.
Tinubu emphasized the interconnectedness between security and the country’s economic revival, prosperity, and overall development. Recognizing terrorism as a global phenomenon, the president stressed the need to harness all available resources to eliminate this threat.
Tinubu said, “If we as Nigerians are looking for economic revival, prosperity and development, then we have to give priority to security.
“What I have seen here is a demonstration of intelligence efforts to counter-terrorism. This must be backed by knowledge.
“Counter-terrorism that is not backed by knowledge and intelligence is not going to be of any service to any nation. We are going to work on that together.
“The effort of the entire armed forces of this country must be put together in a way that there will be one single focus on securing the country”.
Tinubu expressed the utmost importance of the visit to the new Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) building, affirming his administration’s commitment to providing necessary assistance to bolster the country’s security framework.
Meanwhile, The National Security Adviser retired Maj.-Gen. Babagana Monguno, expressed gratitude to the president for choosing this engagement as his first outside the Presidential Villa.
He emphasized that the visit underscored the president’s unwavering determination to overcome Nigeria’s security challenges and those of the sub-region promptly. Monguno assured the president of ONSA’s unwavering dedication and commitment to fulfilling his promises of security to the people.
