The group of 16 worshippers who were kidnapped by bandits at Bege Baptist Church in Madala near Buruku, Chikun local government area of Kaduna state, have finally been freed.
It can be recalled that around 40 worshippers were initially abducted during a Sunday service on May 7, 2023, but a significant number of them managed to escape, leaving behind the 16 individuals who have now regained their freedom.
In a statement to the media on Monday, Rev. John Joseph Hayab, Chairman of the Kaduna State Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), expressed gratitude to the Muslim community in the area. He revealed that the Muslim community, where the worshippers were abducted, raised funds and purchased a motorcycle as part of the ransom required for the release of their Christian brethren held captive.
Rev. Hayab highlighted the positive example set by the Muslim community in Madala and urged others in the state to emulate their actions. He emphasized the importance of unity and peaceful coexistence for the overall development of the state, stating that one does not need to be educated to show care and concern for others. He called on all Nigerians to look out for one another in order to eliminate all forms of insecurity across the country.
According to Rev. Hayab, the 16 remaining abducted worshippers were released on Sunday, with many of them already reunited with their families. Those who sustained injuries are currently receiving medical treatment at the hospital.
