President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to revive and rebuild public trust in Nigeria’s healthcare sector.

During a meeting with leaders of the Joint Health Sector Union (JHSU), an affiliate of the Nigeria Labour Congress, President Tinubu emphasized the significance of the health sector and its professionals in serving humanity. He pledged to address the identified challenges facing the system to ensure optimal performance.

President Tinubu urged the striking union to end their strike and return to work. He assured them that all issues would be resolved, emphasizing the importance of trust in discussions. He appealed to the union leaders, stating, “We will accelerate this. We will resolve all the issues. Please go back to work.”

Dr Obinna Ogbonna, the Acting Chairman of the union, expressed their readiness to resume work and urged President Tinubu to prioritize healthcare delivery in Nigeria. He emphasized the need for adequate investment in healthcare infrastructure and improved welfare for workers to prevent the brain drain phenomenon.

Mr Olumide Akintayo, a member of the Executive Council of the union, who accompanied the Acting Chairman, called on the Federal Government to promptly address labour issues to prevent them from escalating into full-blown industrial crises.
