Prominent Human Rights Lawyer, Femi Falana, Denounces NNPCL’s Unlawful Increase in Fuel Price

Femi Falana, a respected human rights lawyer, has strongly criticized the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) for its recent decision to raise the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol. Speaking on the sidelines of an emergency meeting of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) National Executive Council in Abuja, Falana deemed the move illegal.

Highlighting the fact that the NNPCL is a limited liability company, Falana argued that it lacks the legal authority to unilaterally jack up the price of petroleum. He urged the federal government to go back to the drawing board and seek alternative solutions to address the fuel price issue. One such solution, according to Falana, involves tackling the dollarization of Nigeria’s economy.

Furthermore, Falana asserted that Nigerians will not hesitate to challenge this decision. He emphasized that the resolution to the fuel problem must be sought through both legal and political means, indicating the need for a comprehensive approach.
