The House of Representatives has issued a request to President Bola Tinubu, urging him to declare a state of emergency concerning the issue of drug abuse in the country.
The request comes as a result of a motion of urgent national importance presented by Francis Agbo, a member of the House, who drew attention to the efforts made by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in combatting the prevalence of illicit drugs.
Additionally, the House expressed concerns about the inadequate equipment and weaponry available to the NDLEA and called for an increase in the agency’s budgetary allocation. The lawmakers proposed that the NDLEA be funded directly by the Presidency instead of through other channels.
