Former FCT Ministers Hand Over Leadership to FCTA Permanent Secretary in Accordance with Executive Order 14

Following the guidelines set out in Executive Order 14, which emphasizes a peaceful transfer of power, the former Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello, and former FCT Minister of State, Dr. Ramatu Aliyu, have officially handed over leadership responsibilities to Mr. Olusade Adesola, the permanent secretary of FCTA.

During the ceremony held in Abuja, the former minister urged the City Managers, who serve as heads of secretariats, to be more proactive in safeguarding the Abuja Master plan, particularly the preservation of water bodies like Jabi Lake and green areas designated for conservation. Bello emphasized that the FCT, especially the FCC (Federal Capital City), is currently facing significant challenges that demand the new managers to go the extra mile; otherwise, the city may slip out of their control.

Bello expressed concerns about the potential drying up of Jabi Lake within the next two years due to encroachment. He emphasized the irreversibility of losing the environment, vegetation, and water bodies, urging forgiveness for any shortcomings and weaknesses during his tenure. He concluded by extending his blessings to the Federal Capital Territory.

Dr. Ramatu Tijani Aliyu, the former FCT Minister of State, highlighted the importance of strengthening the institutional framework of FCDA/FCTA and emphasized the need for management staff to document the history of the system. She expressed gratitude to the permanent secretary, directors, staff, and drivers for their cooperation and patience. Aliyu emphasized forgiveness and collaboration as essential elements for future success.

Upon receiving the handover document, Mr. Olusade Adesola, the permanent secretary of FCTA, acknowledged that the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari was the first to facilitate a smooth transition in Nigeria’s history.
