Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the outgoing governor of Kano State, will officially hand over the reins of the state to the governor-elect, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Sunday, May 28. This handover ceremony will take place one day before Ganduje’s tenure officially ends on May 29.
According to a statement by the outgoing Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Malam Muhammad Garba, the event is scheduled for 9:00 pm on Sunday night at the Government House in Kano. The Kano State Government Transition Committee has already informed the Transition Committee of the governor-elect about this development.
Garba mentioned that the two committees have held meetings during the week, during which a handing-over document was presented to the governor-elect’s committee. They have also worked together to establish a coordinated agenda for the handover ceremony.
The Commissioner further explained that Governor Ganduje will depart for Abuja shortly after the event. He will lead the Kano State delegation to attend the inauguration of the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which is scheduled for Monday, May 29, 2023.
Garba added that the governor’s departure is also necessary to ensure timely arrival before the closure of Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, for the President-elect’s inauguration ceremony.
