Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been handed a two-match ban as a consequence of his remarks about referee Paul Tierney following Liverpool’s 4-3 triumph over Tottenham in April. As a result, Klopp will not be able to lead his team in the upcoming match against Aston Villa at Anfield on Sunday.

The second match ban is currently suspended, but it will be enforced if Klopp commits any further breaches within the period extending until the end of the 2023-24 season.

Klopp’s comments after the game against Spurs implied that Tierney held a bias against Liverpool. In addition to the suspension, Klopp has been fined £75,000 for expressing regret over his remarks.
