Real Madrid’s slim chance of defending their La Liga title remains alive after Marco Asensio scored the decisive goal against Getafe.
Despite making eight changes to the squad in preparation for the Champions League semi-final second leg against Manchester City, Carlo Ancelotti’s side struggled to find their rhythm against Getafe, who are currently in the relegation zone.
Asensio’s deflected shot in the 70th minute ultimately secured a narrow victory for Madrid, who now sit 11 points behind leaders Barcelona with just four games remaining. Barcelona can clinch the title with a win over Espanyol on Sunday.
Madrid’s lineup against Getafe included a rare start for Eden Hazard, who has only started two games in the league this season. Toni Kroos, Vinicius Junior, and Luka Modric were all brought on from the bench. With the focus now on the upcoming match at Etihad Stadium, Madrid will have to overturn a 1-1 draw from the first leg against Manchester City to progress to the Champions League final.
