Amid the continued support for Ukraine by the Western ally to fight Russia. The United States on Tuesday announced that it will be providing Ukraine with a new security assistance package worth $1.2 billion.
The package will be used to boost Ukraine’s air defences and provide additional artillery ammunition and underscoring the US commitment to supporting Ukraine’s defence against Russian aggression.
The package will be funded through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative and will cover the procurement of equipment from defence industry partners rather than depleting existing US stocks. The package includes air defence systems, munitions, equipment to integrate Western systems with Ukraine’s existing gear, counter-drone ammunition, 155 mm artillery rounds, and commercial satellite imagery services.
The US so far has played a leading role in gathering international support for Ukraine and coordinating aid from dozens of countries. While some items, like Patriot air defense systems and advanced heavy tanks, have been promised, others, like Western fighter aircraft, have not yet been pledged.
