Luciano Spalletti’s side had the chance to wrap up the title after Lazio was defeated 3-1 by Inter Milan earlier on Sunday. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday but was postponed due to concerns about public order in the city. Thousands of Napoli fans gathered inside and outside the stadium, hoping to see their team end their three-decade wait for the title.
Napoli dominated possession and took the lead in the second half through Mathias Olivera’s header. The crowd erupted in wild celebrations, but their joy was short-lived as Boulaye Dia equalized for Salernitana with six minutes remaining. Despite the disappointment, Napoli is still in a commanding position to win the title.
Their next opportunity to secure the Scudetto will come when they face Udinese on Thursday, but they could also clinch the title earlier if other results go their way. Lazio, currently in second place and 18 points behind Napoli, must win against Sassuolo on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Juventus, who are third and 20 points adrift with a game in hand, need to win on Sunday and Wednesday to have any chance of challenging Napoli for the title.
