Adamawa Election: Collation resumes amid tight security

Security has been heightened at the collation centre in Adamawa State as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials reconvene to continue the exercise that had been previously suspended.

Adamu Gujungu, the Administrative Secretary of INEC in Adamawa, has replaced the former Resident Electoral Commissioner, Hudu Yunusa Ari, who had been relieved of his duties. Gujungu was seen at the collation centre, and Festus Okoye, the INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee is expected to join him.

The electoral body had suspended the collation of results for the supplementary governorship election held on Saturday in the state. The suspension was announced after Ari declared Aisha ‘Binani’ Dahiru of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of the election, defeating the incumbent Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
