Onje Gye-Wado, a former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, was abducted by unknown gunmen on April 7th. However, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Ramhan Nansel, confirmed on Monday to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that Mr Gye-Wado has been released. Mr Gye-Wado served as deputy governor during the Abdullahi Adamu administration from 1999 to 2003. He was abducted from his residence in Wamba Local Government Area.
According to Mr Nansel, the former deputy governor was released on Sunday around 9:00 p.m. and has since reunited with his family. The police have not made any arrests, and there is no indication that a ransom was paid for his release. Mr Nansel stated that the kidnappers released Mr Gye-Wado as a result of sustained pressure from a joint team of security agencies.
The abduction and release of Mr Gye-Wado highlight the ongoing security concerns in the country and the need for the government to take stronger action to protect its citizens.
