Former Attorney General and ICJ Judge Bola Ajibola Passes Away at age 89

Bola Ajibola, a well-known legal figure in Nigeria and abroad, has passed away at the age of 89. Ajibola served as Nigeria’s Minister of Justice and Attorney-General, as well as a Judge of the International Court of Justice in Hague, Netherlands. He was also a prolific author and scholar, having published several books and articles on legal issues.

Ajibola founded Crescent University in Abeokuta, a private institution that focuses on science, technology, and entrepreneurship.

Sadly, Ajibola passed away on Saturday night after a long battle with illness. His eldest son, Segun Ajibola, who is also a respected legal practitioner, confirmed the news in a statement on Sunday in Abeokuta. Segun described his father as a “giant in the legal profession,” noting that he had left a lasting legacy in Nigeria and beyond.

Segun statement partly reads: “With very deep heart and gratitude to Almighty Allah,”

“Our Dad, Prince Bola Ajibola, departed this world over midnight. May Almighty Allah bless him with Aljanah Firdaus.” Segun noted

Ajibola’s passing has been met with an outpouring of tributes and condolences from his colleagues, friends, and admirers. Many have praised him for his integrity, intellect, and commitment to justice, while others have expressed their gratitude for his contributions to legal education and scholarship in Nigeria
