Magaji Tambuwal has been officially appointed as the Clerk to the National Assembly by the National Assembly Service Commission, according to a statement released on March 29th, 2023.
The statement, signed by the Director of Public Affairs of the Commission, Mrs. Janet Mambula, confirms that Tambuwal’s appointment was approved during the 573rd Meeting of the Commission on the same day. The confirmation is effective immediately. The Commission also confirmed Ogunlana Kamoru Esq. as the Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly.
Tambuwal and Kamoru were initially appointed as Acting CNA and Acting DCNA, respectively, by the Commission on November 18th, 2022, after the retirement of the former Clerk, Amos Ojo, and the Deputy Clerk, Bala Yabani.
However, Tambuwal’s appointment was met with controversy due to Ojo’s refusal to step down. Ojo, who was supposed to go on pre-retirement leave in November 2022, claimed that he needed to stay in office to help conclude the passing of the 2023 Budget and the Constitution Amendment bills.
Prior to his new role, Tambuwal was the secretary of the Directorate of Finance and Accounts in the National Assembly Service Commission.
