Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has criticized the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for suspending Ayo Fayose, the former Governor of Ekiti State, and summoning the Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, to appear before a disciplinary committee for allegations of anti-party activities.
Wike argued that the NWC does not have the authority to suspend Fayose or refer Ortom to a disciplinary committee. He suggested that the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu, should be suspended for failing to follow the party’s constitution on zoning of political positions and for not delivering his polling unit and political ward during the recent general elections.
The PDP had sanctioned Fayose, ex-Senate President Pius Anyim, Prof Dennis Ityavyar, and Aslam Aliyu for “anti-party activities,” effective March 23, 2023.
