Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State expressed his sympathies to the traders of the Onitsha main market, who suffered significant losses after a fire broke out and destroyed their shops.
The Governor’s message of condolence was communicated on Wednesday through a statement that was signed by his Press Secretary, Mr Christian Aburime. The fire incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday and razed a two-storey building that housed the Onitsha main market Police Station and several fabric shops, causing significant damage to property and goods worth millions of naira. Governor Soludo expressed deep sadness over the tragic incident and its devastating impact on the traders and their livelihoods.
Soludo stated that: “I want to reiterate the need for all to be extra vigilant in preventing outbreak of fire incidences in the markets, offices and even our homes
“I commend the efforts of the Fire-fighters and other security agencies who battled to contain the inferno,”
Governor Soludo provided a guarantee that his administration would investigate the cause of the fire incident thoroughly. This investigation would aim to identify the root cause and take necessary measures to prevent such an incident from happening again in the future. The Governor’s statement conveys a sense of commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the people and businesses in Anambra state, particularly those affected by the tragic fire outbreak.
