President Mohammed Buhari (retired) has approved the reappointment of Idris Musa as Director General of the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency.
This was announced by the Ministry of the Environment via its Twitter account (@FMEnvng) on Monday.
Recruiting followed Musa’s outstanding performance over the last four years.
Musa was appointed first April 1, 2019, first his four years.
According to the announcement, he will be reappointed on April 1, 2023.
“President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Idriss O Musa as his NOSDRA Executive Director and approved the renewal of his four-year term for a second and final term.”
“Prominent among these was the digitization of agency records, the review of various forms of oil spill management processes, and the review of Environmental Sensitivity Index maps.
“This map will be used in oilfields to protect the endangered, sensitive and fragile ecosystems of the Niger Delta region.
“He has also conducted many awareness campaigns about the dangers of vandalism at oil facilities.
“Musa has also revolutionized online and real-time processing of environmental compliance documents and controls, and national gas flare. Trackers and oil pollution monitors.
“This is part of our effort to demonstrate transparency in environmental management in the oil and gas industry,” part of the statement said.
The statement added: NOSDRA has begun tracking methane, a greenhouse gas that increases global temperatures and distorts the climate system in Nigeria’s oil-producing regions.
“Authorities have begun preparations to track methane in Nigerian oil fields,” he said.
