The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kebbi State has given an assurance that the forthcoming gubernatorial and state assembly elections on Saturday will be conducted in a free, fair, credible, and acceptable manner. This statement comes in response to allegations made by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) that there is a plot to rig the elections in the state.

In a press conference held in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday, Alhaji Muhammadu Rabi’u, the Deputy Director of Voter Education and Publicity, INEC Kebbi State, debunked the PDP’s allegations, describing them as mere speculations. Rabi’u further stated that all voters who come to the polling units must present their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and be accredited before being allowed to vote. He added that INEC has backup BVAS in case of any technical glitches.

Rabi’u also warned that any ad-hoc staff caught compromising their official positions in favor of any political party would be apprehended and prosecuted in line with the laws of the land. He, therefore, called on voters to remain calm and come out en masse to participate in the electoral process, assuring them that INEC has made adequate arrangements to ensure a seamless and transparent election.

Meanwhile, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu, the Director-General of the PDP Gubernatorial Campaign Council, had alleged that there is a plan by some undemocratic elements to rig the elections in 16 local government areas of the state. He called on the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), the Nigeria Police, Department of Security Service (DSS), and all other stakeholders to investigate the matter and take appropriate action to ensure a hitch-free election process.

In summary, INEC has reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a free, fair, credible, and acceptable election in Kebbi State. The electoral body has also assured voters of adequate preparations and backup plans to ensure a transparent election. The PDP has called on stakeholders to investigate alleged plans to rig the elections and ensure a smooth electoral process.
