The Imo State Police Command has requested the presence of the former Governor of the State, Emeka Ihedioha, his deputy, Gerald Irona, and the spokesperson of Coalition of United Political Parties, Ikenga Ugochinyere, due to accusations of murder, kidnapping and arson.
The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, Charles Ugwu, has been invited to produce the three individuals at the State Criminal Bureau of the police command on Thursday. The invitation letter, dated March 13, 2023, was titled “Re: Case of murder, kidnapping and arson” and was seen in Owerri on Wednesday.
The letter reads, “The office of State Intelligence Bureau, Imo State Police Command, state Headquarters Owerri, is investigating the above-underlined case involving some prominent members of Peoples Democratic Party, Imo State chapter.
“The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command requests you come along with the following persons, Emeka Ihedioha, Ugochinyere Ikenga Imo, Gerald Irona, to interview the commissioner of police, through the officer in charge of State Intelligence Bureau, Owerri date Thursday, March 16, 2023, time 10:00 prompt.”
According to Collins Opuruozor, the spokesperson for the PDP in the state, the police invitation is genuine. Additionally, the Legal Adviser of the PDP in the state, Kissinger Ikeokwu, stated that the State Working Committee of the party had received the invitation from the police, which requested that the state party chairman produce Ihedioha, Gerald, and Imo at the SIB unit of the command headquarters in Owerri on Thursday.
