Buhari emphasized that his administration had prioritized the establishment of credible, transparent, and fair elections, which will conclude on March 11 with the Governorship and State Assembly elections.
The president called on Nigerians in Qatar to back Tinubu’s incoming government, stating that he hoped Nigeria would continue to be a model of hope and prosperity for the African continent. Buhari also expressed his appreciation for the contributions of Nigerians in the diaspora to Nigeria’s development, and he mentioned that his administration had approved a National Diaspora Policy and supported the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission.
During the meeting, the Nigerian Ambassador to Qatar, Yakubu Ahmed, congratulated President Buhari on the successful Presidential and National Assembly elections held on February 25, 2023. The ambassador noted that Nigeria and Qatar had maintained a positive relationship since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 2013, and he reported that approximately 7,000 Nigerians resided in Qatar, working in a range of industries, including healthcare, safety, oil and gas, aviation, and construction.
Several members of the Nigerian community in Qatar expressed gratitude to President Buhari for various accomplishments, including restoring peace to Nigeria’s North-eastern region, conducting an election that was deemed to be one of the best in the country’s history, and implementing measures to combat corruption and promote democracy in Africa. They also thanked the president for his efforts to improve infrastructure and keep Nigeria united.
Overall, the Town Hall meeting provided an opportunity for President Buhari to engage with and receive feedback from Nigerians living in Qatar, while also highlighting his administration’s priorities and accomplishments.
