The Nigerian military on Monday said it had launched an investigation into the case of a soldier who allegedly killed his colleagues and himself at the forward operating base Lava in Sokoto state.
In a statement, military spokesman Brigadier General Onyema Nwachuk said the incident occurred on Sunday night.
According to him, the army was used for internal security operations in the region.
Onyema explained that he could not immediately ascertain the circumstances leading up to the incident, adding that the soldier who killed his colleague immediately shot himself.

A sad incident occurred on the evening of Sunday 5 March 2023 at a FOB where internal security forces were deployed, the statement said.
The circumstances leading up to the incident could not be immediately determined, as the soldier who killed his colleague also shot himself immediately.
Nigerian Army officials are deeply concerned about this unusual and ugly development and have set up a commission of inquiry to look into the circumstances surrounding the incident.It is envisaged that the findings of the BOl will help forestall such ugly and bizarre occurrences in the future.
He said Maj. Gen. Godwin Mutktut, commander of the 8th Division of the Nigerian Army and Joint Task Force Northwestern Hadarin Daji He is also the commander of Operation, and other senior officers visited the scene.
A military spokesperson urged to be their brother’s keeper to report any abnormalities they observed to protect their colleagues and forestall such incidents, and encouraged them to remain calm and devote themselves to their duties.
