Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate for the All Progressives Congress, has won the 2023 presidential election according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The announcement was made by INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, during the early hours of Wednesday at the International Collation Centre in Abuja.
Tinubu defeated his opponents, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, and emerged as the winner after winning in nine states, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Kwara, Ekiti, Kogi, Benue, Zamfara, and Jigawa. Tinubu’s victory was based on his total vote count of 8,794,726, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came second with 6,984,520 votes, followed by the Labour Party (LP) with 6,101,533 votes, and the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) with 1,496,687 votes.
While announcing the winner, INEC Chairman noted, “That Tinubu Bola Ahmed of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.”
Tinubu was a former lawmaker and the governor of Lagos State for two terms in 2007.
