The Edo State Government reported on Wednesday that seven people had been detained in connection with the Igueben Train Station attack, including two village heads, and that two abduction victims had been rescued.
On January 7, gunmen attacked the Igueben train station in Edo Central, abducting around 20 passengers and two Nigeria Railway Corporation employees.
The Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, declared at a press conference following the first weekly State Executive Council Meeting of the year on Wednesday that the kidnapping story had been put to bed.
He stated that the state government would safeguard citizens’ safety by providing appropriate security and making the state unappealing to criminals.
“We are pleased to announce that the last two victims have been rescued and seven suspects are in custody including two village chiefs. We thank the press for the support they have given in the last few weeks. he stated.
“The Governor Godwin Obaseki-led government is ready to provide adequate security and make the state uncomfortable for criminal.
