Tesla chief executive’s net worth falls $182bn since November 2021, but he is not the only billionaire to suffer a record-breaking loss in 2022

According to a report by Guinness World Records, Elon Musk has now broken the record for the worst wealth loss in history after losing $182 billion off his net worth since November 2021.

According to data from Forbes magazine, Mr. Musk, co-founder of Tesla, owner of Twitter and Space X, and co-founder of Tesla, began 2023 with a net worth of $138 billion, a significant decline from the $320 billion wealth high he reached in 2021.

The Forbes Real-Time Billionaires List revealed on Monday, however, that Mr. Musk’s current net worth has risen to $146 billion and he is now rated as the second-richest person in the world.

Musk is still the second-richest person in the world, so even if he has lost more money than any other person in history, he won’t be going hungry anytime soon, according to Guinness World Records.

The Russia-Ukraine war, high inflation, and rising interest rates have all contributed to global economic uncertainty, which has heightened market volatility. As a result, the world’s richest billionaires will lose about $2 trillion in total in 2022.

According to Forbes, Mr. Musk was not the only billionaire to see a record decline in his personal wealth in 2022.
