Wout Weghorst will join Manchester United on loan from Burnley for the remainder of the campaign, it has been announced.
The 30-year-old has transferred from the Clarets to help Erik ten Hag’s team fill the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo, whose contract was mutually ended in November.
Weghorst was on loan at Besiktas until the conclusion of the current campaign, but United has completed Weghorst’s transfer to United by paying the Turkish club £2.6 million through Burnley to conclude their deal with the Clarets early.
Besiktas released the following statement stating that Wout Weghorst is no longer a Besiktas player.
“The temporary transfer agreement with our professional football player Wout Weghorst and his club has been terminated by mutual agreement with the player and his club.
“Due to the early termination of the contract by the Burnley FC club, a termination fee of EUR 2,825,000 [£2.5m] will be paid to our Company.”
United does not have the option or obligation to make the agreement permanent in the summer.
Manchester United are currently in hot form and will be facing their rival in Manchester City on Saturday by 1:30 pm GMT+1.
