Real Madrid Close the Gap on Barcelona with Victory Over Getafe

Real Madrid moved within a point of La Liga leaders Barcelona with a confident 2-0 win over Getafe at the Santiago Bernabeu, thanks to goals from Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe. The victory showcased the attacking prowess of Carlo Ancelotti’s side as they continue to pile pressure on their Catalan rivals in the title race.

The breakthrough came inside the opening 30 minutes when Antonio Rudiger was brought down in the penalty area by Getafe defender Allan Nyom, leaving the referee with little hesitation in awarding the spot-kick. After a brief discussion with Kylian Mbappe about who would take the penalty, Jude Bellingham stepped up and coolly converted with his signature hop, skip, and jump technique. The England international sent the goalkeeper the wrong way, calmly slotting the ball down the middle to give Los Blancos the lead.

Mbappe didn’t have to wait long to make his mark. Just eight minutes later, Bellingham turned provider with a perfectly weighted through ball that split the Getafe defence. Mbappe latched onto it and unleashed a composed, curling shot from outside the box that struck the post on its way into the net, securing his eighth La Liga goal of the season.

The hosts continued to dominate proceedings, but Getafe provided moments of resistance, aided by VAR overturning a second penalty decision when Mbappe’s shot struck the arm of a defender in the box. Despite creating multiple chances to extend the lead, Mbappe was unable to double his tally, missing a handful of opportunities that could have put the game beyond reach.

Real Madrid’s defence remained resolute, ensuring Getafe rarely threatened. Ancelotti’s side controlled the tempo and comfortably saw out the game to claim all three points, keeping the pressure on Barcelona at the summit of La Liga.

Up next, Real Madrid turn their attention to Athletic Club on Wednesday before traveling to Girona on Saturday as they look to maintain their momentum. Meanwhile, Getafe face a midweek Copa del Rey clash against fourth-tier Orihuela before a crucial league fixture against fellow strugglers Espanyol.

With the victory, Madrid continues to look like strong contenders in the title race, powered by the dynamic duo of Bellingham and Mbappe, who are proving to be pivotal in their push for domestic and European glory.
