Jamal Musiala struck a late equaliser to salvage a 1-1 draw for Bayern Munich against Borussia Dortmund in a pulsating edition of Der Klassiker. The Bundesliga leaders were on the brink of their first league defeat of the season after a sensational solo effort from Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, but Musiala’s timely intervention ensured Bayern maintained their unbeaten run.
The match at Signal Iduna Park had drama from the start, with Dortmund taking the lead in the 27th minute. English youngster Bynoe-Gittens showcased his immense potential, scoring his third goal in as many games. The 20-year-old burst down the left flank, racing onto a perfectly weighted Nico Schlotterbeck pass. Cutting inside with confidence, he unleashed a precise shot past Manuel Neuer into the far corner to put Dortmund ahead.
Bayern’s night took another turn for the worse when their talismanic striker and top scorer, Harry Kane, limped off before half-time with what appeared to be a hamstring injury. The injury was a significant blow for the visitors, who had started brightly with Leroy Sané testing Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel early on from a Kane lay-off.
Despite Dortmund losing defender Waldemar Anton to injury in the first half, they looked composed and dangerous on the counter. Bayern, meanwhile, struggled to respond effectively. Leroy Sané and Musiala both missed promising chances, and Neuer produced a brilliant point-blank save to deny Marcel Sabitzer, keeping the deficit to one.
The second half saw Bayern dominate possession but struggle to break through Dortmund’s resolute defense. Substitute Kingsley Coman added energy to the attack but failed to trouble Kobel with his attempts. Bayern’s persistence finally paid off five minutes from time, following a free-kick earned by Sané on the edge of the area.
Sané’s initial strike was blocked by the wall, but the ball was recycled to substitute Michael Olise on the right flank. The former Crystal Palace winger delivered an exquisite cross into the box, and Musiala rose to meet it, guiding a well-placed header beyond Kobel to level the scores.
In the dying moments, Bayern appealed for a penalty when Sané tangled with Ramy Bensebaini, but the referee waved play on, leaving both teams to settle for a share of the points.
The result leaves Bayern at the top of the Bundesliga, but their lead is now more precarious, while Dortmund can take pride in a strong performance against their fiercest rivals. For Bynoe-Gittens, his dazzling goal and growing reputation further underline his emergence as one of Europe’s brightest young talents.
