Edon Zhegrova Shines with Winning Goal as Lille Edge Rennes 1-0 to Stay Close to Top Three

Edon Zhegrova continued his excellent form, scoring the only goal of the game to help Lille secure a 1-0 victory over Rennes and maintain their position just one point behind Marseille in third place.

The Kosovo winger played a key role in the match, both starting and finishing a brilliant attacking move in the 45th minute. Zhegrova, known for his dynamic runs from the right flank, darted forward before combining with Rémy Cabella and striker Jonathan David. Zhegrova then calmly fired a left-footed shot past Rennes’ veteran goalkeeper Steve Mandanda, marking his fourth league goal of the season and putting him in prime position to surpass his tally of six from last year.

The 25-year-old had previously displayed his attacking prowess in Lille’s 1-1 draw with Juventus in the Champions League, where he provided an assist for David’s goal. Against Rennes, Zhegrova almost had another assist in the 57th minute, as he broke free down the right wing again and set up David for what seemed to be a goal. However, the effort was ruled offside by a narrow margin.

As the match drew to a close, Zhegrova appeared to clutch his left groin, and he was substituted to a warm ovation from the home fans. Despite his injury scare, Zhegrova’s performance further solidified his importance to Lille’s attacking play.

Rennes, on the other hand, remained stuck in 15th place, still on just 11 points, and their struggles continued.
