Viktor Gyökeres Tops 2024/25 UEFA Nations League Scoring Charts with Nine Goals

Sweden’s Viktor Gyökeres has emerged as the leading scorer of the 2024/25 UEFA Nations League, finishing the group stage with an impressive nine goals. This tally places him two ahead of Norway’s Erling Haaland and three ahead of Romania’s Răzvan Marin. In addition to his scoring prowess, Gyökeres has also contributed five assists, the most by any player in the competition.

On the final matchday, Haaland briefly stole the spotlight with a hat-trick against Kazakhstan, a performance that helped Norway secure a commanding 5-0 victory and promotion to League A. However, Gyökeres responded with an even more dazzling display, netting four goals in Sweden’s emphatic 6-0 win over Azerbaijan. His dominant performance ensured he remained at the top of the scoring charts and highlighted his critical role in Sweden’s campaign.

Romania’s Răzvan Marin, meanwhile, showcased his clinical finishing in League C, scoring four penalties earlier in the group stage. He capped off his campaign with two goals from open play in a 4-1 triumph over Cyprus on Matchday 6, underlining his importance to the Romanian attack.

Cristiano Ronaldo also made headlines, ending the group stage with five goals. The 39-year-old Portuguese icon delivered a spectacular display on November 15, scoring a chipped penalty and a stunning overhead kick within 15 minutes during Portugal’s 5-1 victory over Poland. These goals ensured Portugal’s place in the quarter-finals and added to his earlier strikes against Scotland, Croatia, and Poland in the reverse fixture, making him the only player to score against all of Portugal’s Group A1 opponents.

Slovenia’s Benjamin Šeško also had a memorable campaign, starting with the tournament’s first hat-trick in a 3-0 win over Kazakhstan on September 9. He followed it up with a penalty against Austria and a fifth goal from the spot in Slovenia’s Matchday 5 loss to Norway, showcasing his consistency as a threat in front of goal.
