Shaw opened the scoring in sensational fashion just 22 seconds into the match. A defensive lapse by Spurs’ Clare Hunt allowed Shaw to steal the ball and fire it into the far corner, putting City ahead before Tottenham could settle into the game. Just 15 minutes later, Shaw struck again, rising unchallenged to meet a pinpoint cross from Lauren Hemp and ease any early nerves among the City supporters.
Tottenham struggled to mount any real threat throughout the night, finishing without a single shot on target. City, in contrast, poured forward in wave after wave of attack. Shaw came close to securing her hat-trick in the first half but sent a header narrowly wide. Jill Roord appeared to add another goal for City, but it was ruled out due to a correct offside call on Aoba Fujino.
