Edu Gaspar Steps Down as Arsenal Sporting Director, Closing a Defining Chapter

Arsenal FC announced on Monday evening that Edu Gaspar has officially stepped down as Sporting Director. Edu, a key member of Arsenal’s legendary “Invincibles” team, returned to the club in July 2019 as Technical Director and was promoted to Sporting Director in November 2022. In this role, he oversaw the men’s, women’s, and academy teams, helping to shape a unified, ambitious football vision across the club.

Reflecting on his decision, Edu acknowledged the difficulty of stepping away and highlighted the meaningful relationships he built during his time at Arsenal, especially with manager Mikel Arteta. “Arsenal will always have a place in my heart,” he shared, expressing gratitude for the experience and wishing the club nothing but success.

Arsenal’s Co-Chair Josh Kroenke expressed deep appreciation for Edu’s contributions, saying, “We respect Edu’s decision and are incredibly thankful for his hard work and dedication in moving the club forward. His positive impact has been felt across Arsenal.” Kroenke also reassured fans of the club’s commitment to its goals, noting, “Change and evolution are part of our club, and we remain focused on our ambition to win major trophies.”

Edu’s departure closes an important chapter in Arsenal’s journey, marked by his strategic leadership and dedication to the club’s values. As the Gunners look to build on the foundation he helped lay, they remain committed to a bright and competitive future.
