Severe Flooding in Spain Postpones Real Madrid-Valencia Match and Other Fixtures

The Spanish Football Federation announced on Thursday the postponement of Real Madrid’s upcoming La Liga away match against Valencia this weekend due to severe flooding in eastern Spain, which has claimed the lives of more than 95 people. Villarreal’s home match against Rayo Vallecano was also suspended in response to the devastating flash floods impacting the region.

Following La Liga’s request, the federation moved to reschedule both Valencia and Villarreal’s matches, along with three second-division games involving teams from affected areas, originally slated for Saturday. The RFEF stated that this decision covers all competitions in the Valencia region, including both professional and amateur leagues as well as indoor football.

In light of the flooding, the RFEF had already postponed several Copa del Rey first-round matches, such as Valencia’s fixture against Parla Escuela. Additionally, a moment of silence will be observed at matches throughout Spain this weekend, including the Catalan derby between Barcelona and Espanyol on Sunday, to honor the flood victims.
