Chidera Ejuke: LaLiga’s Most Successful Dribbler Leading Sevilla’s Resurgence

Sevilla’s dynamic winger, Chidera Ejuke, has quickly risen to prominence in LaLiga this season, establishing himself as the league’s most effective dribbler with an impressive 61% success rate. The 26-year-old Nigerian international, who joined Sevilla on a free transfer from CSKA Moscow during the summer, has made an immediate impact. In the 2024/25 LaLiga campaign, Ejuke has successfully completed 28 out of 46 dribbles, highlighting his exceptional ball control and attacking flair.

Ejuke’s dribbling prowess has placed him ahead of several renowned players in the league, including Barcelona’s teenage sensation Lamine Yamal, and Real Madrid’s stars Vinícius Júnior and Kylian Mbappé. While Yamal tops the chart with 63 dribbles attempted, his success rate is 43%. Vinícius has made 56 attempts with a 36% success rate, and Mbappé has a slightly higher rate at 45% from 51 dribble attempts. Rounding out the top five is Real Sociedad’s Takefusa Kubo, who has completed 43 dribbles at a 40% success rate. Ejuke’s remarkable ability to consistently beat defenders has made him a standout player in the league.

His talent for taking on opponents is not new. Back in November 2021, Ejuke was ranked the third-best dribbler in the world by the CIES Football Observatory, a testament to his growing reputation. His breakthrough at CSKA Moscow followed his exciting stint in the Dutch Eredivisie, where he was regarded as one of the league’s most thrilling talents. Now, he’s continuing to showcase his abilities on an even bigger stage.

Since his arrival at Sevilla, Ejuke has wasted no time in making his mark. In September, he was named the club’s Player of the Month after a series of standout performances, which included scoring a vital 85th-minute winner against Real Valladolid in a 2-1 victory. That goal not only secured three points but also played a role in easing the pressure on Sevilla’s manager, Francisco Pimienta, who was granted a contract extension shortly afterward.

Ejuke’s ability to consistently beat defenders is not limited to LaLiga. Earlier in October, he was ranked as the player with the most successful dribbles across Europe’s top five leagues, with 23 successful take-ons, edging out Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal by one. This remarkable form has not gone unnoticed by the Nigerian national team selectors. After a two-year absence, Ejuke was recalled to the Super Eagles squad for their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Libya, as interim coach Austin Eguavoen named him in the 23-man roster.
