The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the launch of an investigation into the “disturbing” experience endured by Nigeria’s Super Eagles at a Libyan airport.
In a statement released on Monday, CAF expressed deep concern over the prolonged delay faced by the Nigerian players and coaching staff, calling the situation “disturbing and unacceptable.” The organization emphasized that the incident has been referred to its disciplinary committee for further investigation and potential sanctions.
“CAF has been in communication with both Libyan and Nigerian authorities after being informed that the Super Eagles and their technical team were stranded in troubling conditions for several hours at a Libyan airport where they were reportedly directed to land,” the statement read.
CAF confirmed that the case has been escalated to its disciplinary board, which will take appropriate action against any parties found to have breached CAF’s Statutes and Regulations.
Earlier today, Nigerian football stars Victor Osimhen and Stanley Nwabali have expressed strong disappointment over the treatment of the Super Eagles at Libya’s Al Abraq International Airport.
Osimhen, speaking out on Monday, condemned the poor handling of the national team, calling the situation “inhumane.”
“I’m deeply disappointed by the unfair treatment my teammates and coaches endured at the Libyan airport. Such actions are completely against the spirit of sportsmanship. I stand with my team, and I know they’ll remain resilient in the face of these challenges,” Osimhen stated.
He also called on the Confederation of African Football to take immediate action.
