The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has initiated emergency repairs on the deteriorated sections of the East-West Road, which runs between Warri in Delta State and Benin in Edo State. These repairs are particularly focused on the most damaged portions of the road, including sections at Ibadulume, the Amukpe roundabout, Mosoga, and Ologbo.
The NDDC’s Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, personally inspected the ongoing work, accompanied by the Executive Director of Projects, Sir Victor Antai, and other senior officials of the Commission. This information was disclosed in a statement issued by the NDDC’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mrs. Seledi Thompson-Wakama, on Sunday.
During the inspection, Dr. Ogbuku expressed his appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for issuing the directive that led to the swift intervention to restore these vital sections of the road, which serves as a key transportation artery through the Niger Delta region. He praised the Federal Government for responding promptly to public outcry and media reports by re-awarding the contract for the road project, which had previously been abandoned for an extended period.
Ogbuku expressed optimism that the ongoing repairs, under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Works, would produce a durable and long-lasting road once completed. He also called on the local communities and commuters to exercise patience and understanding during the construction period, assuring them that the government was committed to completing the project as quickly as possible.
The Managing Director of the construction firm overseeing the repairs, Mr. Adara Opeoluwa, briefed the NDDC inspection team on the scope of the work. He noted that the project would cover three kilometers of the most severely damaged road sections, particularly at Ibadulume, the Amukpe roundabout, Mosoga, and Ologbo.
