The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the completion of the Continuous Voters Registration exercise in preparation for the Ondo State governorship election scheduled for November 16, 2024. According to the commission, a total of 2,053,061 registered voters are expected to participate in the upcoming election.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner for the state, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola, shared these details during a briefing at INEC’s state headquarters in Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Saturday. She provided an update on the commission’s preparations, noting that a significant portion of sensitive election materials had already been received and distributed to all 18 Local Government Areas in the state. Additionally, 16 political parties have confirmed their participation in the governorship race.
Babalola emphasized that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) would be deployed across all 3,933 polling units during the election. This system is designed to enhance the transparency of the process by transmitting results directly from polling units to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV), providing the public with real-time access to election outcomes.
In her remarks, Babalola called on security agencies to work closely with INEC to ensure a safe and orderly environment for all election stakeholders. She also appealed to the citizens of Ondo State to remain law-abiding throughout the election period, stressing the importance of a peaceful and credible election process.
