Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, announced on Saturday that his administration will begin the payment of the new N70,000 minimum wage once the issue of consequential salary adjustments has been resolved. This information was conveyed in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, and made available to journalists in Ibadan, the state capital.
In addition to this, Governor Makinde revealed the extension of the N25,000 wage award for workers and the N15,000 wage award for pensioners for another three months. He explained that the extension would cover the ongoing period of negotiation regarding the consequential adjustment of salaries, after which the wage award would cease upon the full implementation of the new minimum wage.
The governor took the opportunity to express his gratitude to teachers in Oyo State for their overwhelming support during the last election and for their invaluable contributions to the development of the state. He emphasized that his administration remains committed to prioritizing the welfare of teachers and all civil servants to ensure they remain motivated and productive.
While commissioning a block of 10 classrooms constructed by the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) at the NUT Model School, Governor Makinde reiterated his administration’s ongoing efforts to rehabilitate inner roads, specifically those within the Owode Housing Estate. He assured residents that these projects are still on track.
