Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has declared Thursday, October 3, and Friday, October 4, 2024, as public holidays to give residents ample time to travel to their respective communities and actively participate in the local government elections scheduled for Saturday, October 5.
In a bid to ensure the smooth conduct of the elections, the governor has also announced a stringent restriction on vehicular movement. This restriction will take effect from midnight on Friday, October 4, and will remain in place until 5 p.m. on Election Day, allowing the electoral process to proceed without disruption.
Governor Fubara made this announcement during a statewide broadcast from the Government House in Port Harcourt on Wednesday. The details were further outlined in a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, and circulated to news outlets.
