Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag remains confident he’ll be given time to turn around the club’s poor form, despite a 3-0 home defeat to Tottenham. United fell behind early when Brennan Johnson scored from a Micky van de Ven run just three minutes in. Ten Hag then lost captain Bruno Fernandes to a red card before halftime. Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke added to Tottenham’s lead in the second half.
After a disappointing eighth-place finish last season, Ten Hag survived an internal review and signed a one-year contract extension. Despite winning only two of their first six games this season, leaving United 12th, Ten Hag believes the club’s leadership remains aligned with his vision. “We made the decision together, ownership and leadership, to continue,” he said.
Ten Hag faces two critical away games this week, against Porto in the Europa League and Aston Villa in the Premier League. He emphasized the need for patience, stating, “We are all on the same page, together.”
United’s first-half performance was heavily criticized, with former captain Gary Neville calling it a “disgrace.” Fernandes defended his red card after an unlucky slip during a challenge on James Maddison.
