The Kebbi State Government has urgently called on the Federal Government for assistance following devastating floods that have ravaged the state. The appeal was made by the State Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed-BK, during a press conference in Birnin Kebbi on Friday, where he outlined the extensive damage caused by the floods.

According to Ahmed-BK, the floods have led to numerous fatalities and widespread destruction of property. A total of 858,311 farmlands were submerged, and 329,092 households have been left homeless. He highlighted specific losses in several local government areas: Birnin Kebbi (2 deaths), Ngaski (7 deaths), Maiyama (8 deaths), Kalgo (5 deaths), and Jega (7 deaths).

“The scale of the disaster is beyond our capacity, and we are appealing to the Federal Government for immediate intervention to provide relief to the victims,” the commissioner said.

The state has already submitted a detailed report to Abuja for review and action. Ahmed-BK also expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for its commitment to assisting flood-affected states nationwide.
