The Katsina State Government has initiated several measures to address the potential risk of flooding in seven of its local government areas.
This proactive approach comes in response to forecasts from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, which have warned of heavy rainfall expected in the near future.
On Thursday, Abdullahi Faskari, the Secretary to the Katsina State Government, convened a meeting with stakeholders in Katsina on behalf of Governor Dikko Umar Radda. The purpose of the meeting was to inform and prepare communities in flood-prone areas for the anticipated weather conditions and to ensure prompt action if necessary.
Katsina State has recently experienced severe flooding, and around 234 locations affected by the floods have been providing shelter for internally displaced persons. The government’s measures aim to mitigate the impact of any forthcoming heavy rains and safeguard the affected communities.
