Al Nassr confirmed the exit of Portuguese coach Luis Castro on Tuesday, just a day after the team began their AFC Champions League Elite campaign with an underwhelming draw.

The 1-1 tie against Iraq’s Al Shorta on Monday further highlighted a slow beginning to their domestic season, with star player Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract, now 39, set to expire next summer.

Castro, 63, became the third manager to part ways with Al Nassr since Ronaldo’s high-profile signing in early 2023, a deal reportedly worth 400 million euros over two and a half years. Despite the Portuguese legend’s illustrious career, Ronaldo has yet to secure a Saudi domestic trophy, with his only achievement at the club being last year’s Arab Club Champions Cup.

Al Nassr, who ended last season as runners-up in the Saudi Pro League, have struggled at the start of this campaign, with two draws in their opening three matches.
