Conversion centers across Nigeria have started receiving shipments of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) kits as part of the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to combat rising transportation costs and reduce carbon emissions. This initiative, spearheaded by the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative, is focused on providing commercial vehicle operators with a more cost-effective and environmentally sustainable fuel option.

According to the Programme Director of the Presidential CNG Initiative, Michael Oluwagbemi, at least 18 conversion centers nationwide have each received 50 CNG kits so far. During an inspection of several centers in Abuja on Saturday, Oluwagbemi noted that seven centers in the capital have already benefited from the distribution, with plans to expand deliveries across the country.

The free conversion kits, which are being offered to commercial vehicle owners, are a key component of the government’s strategy to alleviate the high cost of transportation. The initiative aims to convert one million vehicles to CNG, which is expected to save N750 million — equivalent to a month’s worth of fuel subsidy payments — and generate 100,000 direct jobs.

Oluwagbemi further explained that drivers need only provide their vehicle documents or identification for verification to access the conversion service, ensuring a straightforward process for participation in the program.
