Edo Police Begin Crackdown on Illegal Arms Ahead of Governorship Election

The Edo State Police Command has begun a crackdown on illegal arms and ammunition in preparation for the September 21, 2024, governorship election. This was revealed during a meeting between the Command and the chairmen of political parties, along with the governorship candidates.

In a statement, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Moses Yamu, reported that Commissioner of Police Nemi Iwo urged the public to provide information that could help the police create a conducive environment for the election.

The commissioner also called on political party leaders and candidates to discourage their supporters from engaging in violence during the election. He assured the parties that there would be sufficient security to allow voters to participate without fear or intimidation. Additionally, Iwo pledged that security forces would protect all stakeholders and election materials to ensure a peaceful process.
