Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State on Tuesday reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the police in their mission to safeguard lives and property within the state.

This commitment was highlighted during the presentation of 100 patrol vehicles to the police, as announced in a statement by his spokesperson, Nelson Chukwudi. The governor urged the police officers to conduct themselves in a manner that would ensure they leave a positive legacy, so that when their names are mentioned or their children visit the state in the future, there would be no cause for fear.

Governor Fubara cautioned the police against engaging in partisan activities, warning that the hostility generated by partisan behavior could have long-lasting consequences.

Addressing the state’s commissioner of police, Fubara recalled an earlier discussion where he had made it clear that he would never request the police to act improperly. He emphasized that their duty is to do what is right and to protect the lives and property of the people in Rivers State.

He continued, “Do not engage in partisan politics. We’ve witnessed the fates of those who have done so, and the outcome is never favorable. I’m making it clear: any officer who chooses to be partisan will eventually face the consequences. Carry out your duties in a way that ensures your name remains honorable in this state, even long after you’ve left, and your children can visit without fear.

“Remember that nothing lasts forever. As professionals, your primary responsibility is to protect lives and property in Rivers State. Politics is temporary, but the enmity created by partisanship will follow you indefinitely. This is my advice to you.”

Governor Fubara reiterated that he would never ask the police to act unethically, urging them to adhere to their professional standards, ensure fairness, and focus on their duty to protect lives and property.

He also mentioned that while the state government had initially planned to provide more high-end vehicles to security agencies, they opted for Toyota Camry, Sienna, and Corolla models based on the recommendation of the police commissioner.
